Westbury Hotel Dublin Wedding Photographer — A Photographer’s View

The Westbury sits right in the heart of Dublin — steps from Grafton Street, a short walk from St. Stephen’s Green, surrounded by the best of the city. That location alone makes it one of the most versatile venues in Dublin for a photographer. You’re not just shooting a hotel interior — you’re shooting a Dublin city wedding, with everything that implies.

I’ve photographed couples at The Westbury and I know the space well. Here’s what your photographs will look like.

The interior

The Westbury is grand in the best sense — marble, crystal chandeliers, warm tones, and the kind of proportions that make formal portraits look genuinely impressive without any effort. If you want photographs that feel timeless and elegant rather than cool and contemporary, the interior of The Westbury delivers that naturally.

The lobby and gallery areas are particular favourites of mine. The staircase is an obvious shot, but it’s obvious for a reason — it photographs beautifully and gives you a sense of scale and occasion that’s hard to manufacture elsewhere.

The light

The Westbury has good interior light in the right rooms, and knowing which rooms those are and at what time of day is something that comes from having shot there. I’ll always talk through timing with you in advance so we’re making the most of the light rather than fighting it.

In the evening, the chandeliers create a warm, golden quality that works well for receptions — natural-looking, flattering, and genuinely atmospheric.

The city outside

This is one of The Westbury’s biggest advantages: you’re already in one of the most photogenic parts of Dublin. Grafton Street, the alleys off it, the Georgian terraces, the gates of St. Stephen’s Green — all within a few minutes’ walk.

For couples portraits, this gives us real flexibility. If you want to spend 20 minutes outside between your ceremony and reception, we can cover a lot of ground without going far. Dublin city in the afternoon light, with just the two of you, is one of my favourite things to photograph.

St. Stephen’s Green

Worth mentioning separately because it changes so dramatically through the year. In summer it’s lush and green and full of life. In autumn the foliage turns and the lake catches warm light. In winter it’s stripped back and moody in a way that’s actually beautiful. Whenever your wedding is, the Green will be something worth photographing — and with The Westbury as your venue, it’s five minutes away.

The guests and the day

Weddings at The Westbury tend to be considered and well-planned. Guests are looked after, the day runs smoothly, and there’s a sense of occasion from the moment you arrive. For a documentary photographer that’s ideal — when people are relaxed and enjoying themselves, the photographs take care of themselves.
