Dublin is a remarkably photogenic city. Georgian doorways, cobblestone lanes, the River Liffey at golden hour, the wild clifftops of Howth just 30 minutes from the city centre. Most couples visiting Dublin end up with a camera roll full of selfies that don't do justice to where they actually were.

Here are the locations I use most often with visiting couples, and what makes each one work:

1. Dublin City Centre

The cobblestone streets around Temple Bar, the Georgian architecture of Merrion Square, and the iconic Ha'penny Bridge all make for beautiful backdrops. Best in early morning before the crowds arrive, or in the golden hour before sunset.

2. Howth

A fishing village perched on a clifftop peninsula 30 minutes from Dublin city. The cliff walk offers dramatic coastal scenery, while the harbour has a completely different feel — fishing boats, colourful shopfronts, the smell of the sea. One of my favourite spots for couples who want something with a bit more nature and drama.

3. County Wicklow

Often called "the Garden of Ireland," Wicklow is an hour from Dublin and a world away. Powerscourt Estate, the Sally Gap, and the Wicklow Mountains offer landscapes that feel genuinely cinematic. I offer half-day and full-day sessions that include Wicklow travel.

4. The Liberties & Portobello

Away from the tourist trail, these inner-city neighbourhoods have a gritty, authentic feel — colourful murals, independent cafés, canal-side paths. Great for couples who want something a bit more editorial and less "postcard."

5. Phoenix Park

Europe's largest enclosed city park. Deer, wide open meadows, Victorian lodges. Feels completely different from the city even though you're technically still in it. Beautiful in all seasons, especially autumn.

When Is the Best Time of Year for a Dublin Photoshoot?

The honest answer: Dublin is photogenic year-round, but each season has its strengths.

Spring (March–May): Fresh green everywhere, longer evenings from April onwards, and fewer tourists. One of the best times to visit and shoot.

Summer (June–August): Long golden hours (sunset can be as late as 10pm), warm tones, and the city is buzzing. Book well in advance — this is peak season.

Autumn (September–November): My personal favourite. The light is incredible — warm, low, and directional. Howth and Wicklow are stunning with autumn colour. Fewer tourists than summer.

Winter (December–February): Moody, atmospheric, dramatic clouds. Dublin's Christmas lights add something extra for December sessions. It can be cold, but it's rarely as harsh as people expect.

What to Wear for Your Dublin Photoshoot

Layer up. Dublin weather is unpredictable. Bring a stylish jacket you can add or remove depending on conditions.

Coordinate, don't match. You don't need to wear the same colour — just make sure your outfits work together tonally.

Avoid heavy logos. Branded clothing dates photos quickly and draws the eye away from you.

Bring a change. If we're doing a longer session across multiple locations, a second outfit gives you more variety in the final gallery.

Comfortable shoes. We walk. Cobblestones are beautiful but unforgiving.

What to Expect from a Session with Me

My approach is relaxed and documentary. I don't do rigid poses — I direct you into natural situations and capture what happens. Most couples feel a bit awkward at the start and completely forget the camera is there after about 15 minutes. That's exactly where the best photos come from.

Here's how a typical session works:

We meet at the location — I suggest the spot based on what you tell me about yourselves and what kind of images you're after.

We walk and talk. I'll give you light direction ("walk toward the bridge," "look at each other") but nothing that feels stiff or formal.

We move when the light moves. I'm always watching where the light is and steering us toward it.

Your gallery is delivered within 5 days via a private online link. Fully edited, high-resolution images, ready to download and print.

Do you travel outside Dublin?Yes — Howth, Wicklow, and surrounding areas are all available. I'm also available for full-day travel shoots further afield in Ireland.

What if it rains?Dublin rain is rarely torrential. Some of my favourite images have been taken in drizzle — the light is beautiful and the streets are quieter. I'll always have a backup plan and can reschedule if conditions are genuinely unworkable.

How many photos will I receive?Typically 60–100 fully edited images from a 90-minute session, depending on locations covered.
